Hardcore Italians

About Us

Hardcore Italians began the way most great Italian things do — around a table, with family.

Born from a deep pride in Italian heritage and a refusal to let that culture be watered down, Hardcore Italians was built for the ones who don't just have Italian roots — they live them. This isn't nostalgia. It's a lifestyle.

The Story

  1. Before Hardcore

    Two sides of an identity

Hardcore Italians grew out of two sides of the same heritage. On Mike's mother's side, Giuseppe Scarcello emigrated from Calabria and eventually settled near Chicago, carrying with him the traditions and values of an immigrant generation. On his father's side, the Carioscia family had already spent generations in Chicago's Italian-American neighborhoods, with roots on Taylor Street. One side connected the family directly to Italy; the other shaped the distinctly Italian-American personality, pride and community that would eventually define the brand.

  2. 2010

    Hardcore Sports

Mike's father launched Hardcore Sports with family and friends. He coached youth baseball and wanted team photos that looked like the team came to win. A Chicago screen printer made the shirts, the skull logo came together in-house, and they sold from a car trunk and on eBay.

  3. 2011

    One design changes everything

Among dozens of sports designs, he put out one that had nothing to do with sports — "Hardcore Italian" — and offered it for sale like the rest. It outsold the entire sports line. The Facebook page launched that September, and his 17-year-old son came in as an equal partner on the Italian side. Everything the company is today traces to that one shirt.

  4. 2012 – 2015

    A million-person community

Mike built the first website, moved sales off eBay, opened an Instagram account, and started a blog that earned its own advertising revenue. Working from the back of his college classes, he grew the Facebook page to a million followers and made Hardcore one of the largest Italian-American communities online. Neither he nor his father drew a salary for four years.

  5. 2017

    Going all in

After years of building Hardcore on nights, weekends, and from the back of college classrooms, Mike was hauling beer kegs for $110 a day when a $128 Hardcore order landed on his phone mid-shift. He gave his notice and went full time. That summer the company moved into its first 1,200-square-foot warehouse, hired its first employees, migrated to Shopify, and began running paid advertising. Revenue nearly tripled in a single year, and the business formally took the name Hardcore Italians.

  6. 2020

    Italy Strong

As COVID overwhelmed Italy, Hardcore released an "Italy Strong" shirt and donated roughly $17,000 to Italian hospitals. The year also brought a broader shift: with social media delegated for the first time and the early blog-advertising model fading, the company concentrated on ecommerce and performance marketing, and the business doubled.

  7. 2021

    Demand outgrows the operation

Italy won the delayed Euro 2020 final and orders arrived by the hundreds per hour — the largest sales moment in company history, and more than the operation could ship. A single small screen printer supplied everything, and orders were still folded and bagged by hand. Demand the business couldn't fulfill became the case for building real production capacity.

  8. 2022

    Professionalizing the operation

Outside operational leadership came in to take an instinct-run business and give it structure: the first true org chart, documented strategy, a real hiring process, and the groundwork for outsourced fulfillment. That September the brand launched Shirt Club, its monthly membership, adding recurring revenue alongside one-off orders. It was the year Hardcore began operating like a company rather than a family workshop.

  9. 2023

    A national moment

A football design celebrating a New York Italian quarterback — Tommy Cutlets — took off during his run late in the season and sold thousands of units in weeks, far beyond what the warehouse could handle. A batch was routed to a third-party logistics partner in West Chicago as a test, and it shipped without a problem. It was the biggest growth year to date, and proof the brand could capture a national cultural moment and actually deliver on it.

  10. 2024 – 2025

    Building a leaner company

In January 2024 the entire fulfillment operation moved to the 3PL, ending more than a decade of shipping every order in-house. The freed warehouse became a media studio, where Hardcore tested original programming with guests including Buddy Valastro, Drea de Matteo, Katherine Narducci, and Matteo Bocelli. By 2025 the company had gone fully remote and taken a more selective approach to original production, concentrating resources on the store.

  11. Today

    A store, a network, and a community

Hardcore Italians is an apparel brand with a monthly Shirt Club membership, a large portfolio of Italian-American social accounts led by its flagship page, a blog, a podcast, and a live events presence including annual bocce tournaments and festival booths. Social platforms now pay the brand directly for the audience it spent more than a decade building. The goal has not changed since the first shirt: make an Italian-American feel seen, credited, and connected to their family's story.

Core Principles

The beliefs that guide how we live, work, and build this brand. They're the values our grandparents taught us, and the standards we hold ourselves to.

Wear It Proud

We have held the same product standard since the first shirt, because a shirt sitting in a closet misses the point. When you wear it, people come up to you, it starts a conversation, and the culture stays alive.

Family First

Family is everything. Blood or not, we show up for our people — always.

Stay Humble

Success doesn't make you better than anyone. Let your work speak for itself.

Lead with Gratitude

Never forget how lucky we are. We honor our roots by being thankful for every opportunity.

Earn It Daily

Nothing is handed to us. We show up, work hard, and give our best — no matter the task.

Make Others Feel Welcome

Be warm, be generous, and treat people like family. That's what true community feels like.

Loyalty Over Everything

We stand by our people. Loyalty is earned — and betrayal doesn't get a second chance.

No Excuses

Our ancestors crossed oceans with nothing. We find a way — no complaining, no shortcuts.

Keep the Faith

Faith gives us strength, especially when life tests us. Pray hard. Trust harder.

Protect Your Name

Your reputation is your legacy. Act with honor, earn respect, and never fold.

Pass Down the Culture

Keep the old-school traditions alive — through food, faith, stories, and Sunday dinners.
